When it comes to playing a round of 18 holes in America, you’re definitely spoilt for choice. The U.S. boasts some of the best golf courses in the world, with many attracting celebrities and golf pros alike. In this article, we’ll explore the top ten golf courses in the United States.

1. Pine Valley Golf Course

Located in Pine Valley, New Jersey, the Pine Valley Golf Course was founded in 1918 by hotelier and golf enthusiast George Arthur Crump. It initially had a reputation for being the most challenging golf course and is still viewed by many golfers as such. Because of its refined greens and punishing hazards, it’s a challenge for any amateur or pro golfer.

2. Cypress Point Club

Offering a view of the water line of Pebble Beach, Calif., Cypress Point Club offers a picturesque game of golf. Alister MacKenzie, a World Golf Hall of Fame, developed the course in 1928. Besides being a stunning course, it includes a course structure with consecutive par 5s on the front and consecutive par 3s on the back for a challenge.

3. Shinnecock Hills

William Flynn designed many golf courses throughout the U.S., but Shinnecock Hills is recognized as one of his best. Located in Southampton, New York, Shinnecock Hills is known for its landscape with graceful greens and roughs. It’s hosted five U.S. Opens since 1986, the most recent in 2018.

4. Augusta National

The August National is one of the most prominent golf courses in the United States. Launched in 1933, it’s facilitated the yearly Masters’ Tournament since 1934. The course was redesigned to be more competitive but still holds its natural beauty.

5. National Golf Links of America

The National Golf Links of America course was the debut of famous architect Seth Raynor. It was initially designed to mirror the practices of old British golf courses. Since 1911, it’s also been one of the United States’ most exclusive golf courses. It has hosted two Walker competitions and is considered a strategic masterclass.

6. Sand Hills

Designed in 1995 by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, Sand Hills is one of the younger golf courses that’s gained notoriety. Its creators were inspired by the landscape surrounding Mullen, Nebraska. They carefully considered preserving the land, allowing the wind to shape the bunkers on the course.

7. Oakmont

Oakmont is most appreciated by those who take airborne shots, making this course challenging and fun. There are quite a few trees and water to deal with on the course, which also includes greens and bunkers. Wind gusts and direction also play a significant part on this flat course, testing all types of handicaps.
